Raleigh Civic Symphony

The Raleigh Civic Symphony is a 75-member full symphony orchestra comprised of community musicians and students rehearsing Monday evenings. There are two complete programs yearly in addition to other performances. Area professionals serve as principal strings and section coaches, providing high-level instruction and leadership to community and student players. Guest soloists are also invited from among area professionals.

The symphony performs both traditional and innovative repertoire, often in thematic programs linked with a chamber orchestra concert. Recent concerts have included “Fate and Destiny,” “African-American Heritage Concerts,” “Scearce-Rachmaninoff-Dvorak,” “American Originals,” and “Natural Wonders.”

See the Repertoire List for both orchestras.

“There was strength in all sections of the RCS in the performance, with silken strings and solid, secure playing from the winds and brass and ancillary instruments… “Philip Glass’s Symphony no. 2 was a bracing, nay exhilarating ride, and the substantial program ended to great acclaim.” Lambert, April 2005, on “American Originals”
