Based at NC State University, the Raleigh Civic Symphony and Chamber Orchestra combine student and community musicians with professional leaders and innovative programming in what has been called "a class act" and "bright lights on the music scene in Raleigh." (see Reviews)  Sponsored by NC State University and the Raleigh Civic Symphony Association (a non-profit group), the orchestras have gained recognition and stature under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Randolph Foy.  The Symphony (70 members) and Chamber Orchestra (35 members) are on the same artistic level, rehearse once a week, and each perform at least three concerts a season.  Audiences benefit from hearing both traditional and innovative repertoire in settings that include extensive program notes and in-concert comments, illuminating the repertoires in an informative context.   Amateur musicians have the opportunity to learn about fine music, working with professional musicians through rehearsals, coached sectionals, and performances.
